Special Substrates

 

For the high temperature Lab Test Cell K500 a special substrate is developed consisting of a 39 mm porous substrate sealed on a dense alumina ring. Ring dimensions; outer ø = 60 mm, thickness 2 mm.

On request this technique can be applied for other dimensions.

  

Treatments

 

·   Polishing                        Substrates can be polished on one or both sides.

Substrates with pores 0.08, 0.12 and 0.15 mm to  ra < 0.1 mm. 

·   Seal                                  A glass or epoxy seal can be attached to the edge or surface of the
                                               substrate.

·   Hydrophobic                   All substrates are hydrophilic, but can be made hydrophobic by a
                                               special treatment.

 

Membrane layers

 

·   Micro filtration             Micro filtration membranes (pore ø = 0.1 to 0.5 mm) of a-alumina and
                                              zirconia
are under development. These membranes are to be attached
                                              on coarse supports.

 

·   Ultra filtration               Pore diameter = 4 nm (g-alumina), thickness = approx. 4 mm,
                                               porosity = 50 %.

                                               Larger pore diameters upon request.

                                               This membrane can only be attached on polished substrates with
                                               pores < 1
mm.

 

·   Gas separation               Pore diameter = approx. 0.4 nm (4 Å). Membrane material; silica.

     (Hydrogen selective)     This membrane can only be attached on the g-alumina ultra filtration
                                               membrane.
